## How we chose

We looked at every surf retreat on our site and kept the ones that pair real surf coaching or guiding with yoga, and were taking bookings when we checked in October 2026. Many have been running for well over a decade. Where a publication has written about one, we've linked the article. We've grouped them by the kind of trip they offer rather than ranking them, because the right retreat depends mostly on your level, who you're traveling with and what you want from the week.

## Classic surf and yoga weeks

These are full-board weeks with a set rhythm: surf in the morning or with the tides, yoga to stretch it out, meals with the group.

**[Talalla Retreat](/talalla-retreat-sri-lanka/), Sri Lanka.** A seven-acre beachfront property on a quiet cove near the island's southern tip, running since 2005. It runs a surf camp and a wellness retreat every week of the year, with a Surf and Yoga option, five open-air shalas, a reformer Pilates studio and an Ayurvedic spa. Coaching covers beginners to advanced surfers.

**[Soul & Surf](/soul-and-surf/), Sri Lanka and Portugal.** Week-long all-inclusive retreats from a cove hotel in Ahangama, open year-round, and a farmhouse near Burgau in the Algarve from April to November. It's sociable and especially good for solo travelers. The original Kerala retreat closed in April 2026.

**[Surf Maroc](/surf-maroc/), Morocco.** Saturday-to-Saturday yoga surf retreats in Taghazout, near Agadir, running since 2003. You get surf lessons, yoga twice a day and vegetarian food from local seasonal produce, and there are women's surf weeks too.

**[Karma Surf Retreat](/karma-surf-retreat/), Portugal.** A homey alternative to a big camp, with a villa above Praia do Guincho about 35 minutes from Lisbon and another in the western Algarve. Family weeks come with childcare, and some weeks swap surf for hiking, climbing or SUP.

## Women's surf and yoga retreats

**[Surf With Amigas](/surf-with-amigas/).** Founded by surfer Holly Beck, it runs week-long, all-inclusive retreats mainly in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, with trips to Mexico, Peru, Morocco, Spain and Indonesia. Coaching includes daily video review, and yoga is gentle yin or restorative. Golden Amigas weeks are for surfers over 50, and there are family and all-gender weeks.

**[Pura Vida Adventures](/pura-vida-adventures/), Costa Rica.** Seven-day women's retreats from a beachfront hotel in Santa Teresa, running since 2003. Groups are small, with no more than three students per instructor in the whitewater, and each guest gets a massage. There are Women 50+ weeks and coed holiday camps.

**[Goddess Retreats](/surf-goddess-retreats/), Bali.** Founded in 2003 as Surf Goddess Retreats, with a villa base in Seminyak and a jungle base in Ubud. The seven-day surf retreat runs with Rip Curl School of Surf at a maximum of three students per instructor, plus yoga, spa time and shared meals.

**[Papaya Wellness](/papaya-wellness/), Nicaragua.** Week-long surf, yoga and fitness retreats, mostly for women, based at Hacienda Iguana in southern Nicaragua since 2012. Transfers run from Managua or from Liberia in Costa Rica.

**[Escape Haven](/escape-haven/), Bali.** A women-only resort near Echo Beach in Canggu with six-night all-inclusive programs and a separate beginner surf package. Daily yoga, meditation and spa treatments are included. National Geographic mentioned its [women-only Pilates week](https://www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/article/could-pilates-retreats-replace-your-annual-yoga-getaway-).

## Surf therapy

Surf therapy uses time in the ocean alongside structured emotional support. These two are led by trained therapists, and both welcome complete beginners.

**[Resurface](/resurface/), Morocco.** Week-long trauma and burnout retreats in Tamraght, near Agadir, led by psychologist Josh Dickson. Days combine group EMDR therapy with beginner surf lessons and gentle yoga, and National Geographic featured it in a story on [surf therapy](https://www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/article/why-surf-therapy-is-more-than-just-catching-waves).

**[Soul Surfers Retreat](/soul-surfers-retreat/), Portugal.** A six-night retreat with five surf therapy sessions, group work, yoga and shared vegetarian meals, led by Gestalt therapist Sabine Wensink. National Geographic included it in a piece on [grief getaways](https://www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/article/grief-getaways-are-on-the-rise-here-are-the-best-to-try).

## Surf towns with yoga on tap

If you'd rather plan your own days, these give you a good base with surf and yoga close by.

**[Bodhi Tree Yoga Resort](/bodhi-tree-yoga-resort/), Costa Rica.** A large yoga resort in Nosara with several shalas, a packed daily class schedule and surf lessons with certified instructors.

**[Harmony Hotel](/harmony-hotel/), Costa Rica.** Two minutes from Playa Guiones in Nosara, with a free yoga class every day, a stash of surfboards for guests and a sauna and cold plunge.

**[Solscape](/solscape/), New Zealand.** An eco retreat above Raglan's beaches, with earth domes and old railway carriages to sleep in, vinyasa yoga, surf lessons and hire, and a sauna and cold plunge.

**[Surf Into Yoga](/surf-into-yoga/), Hawaii.** Former pro surfer Rochelle Ballard's company on Kauai's south shore, offering private surf lessons, yoga and SUP yoga you can build into your own trip. Lodging isn't included.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need to know how to surf?
No. Almost every retreat here welcomes complete beginners, and several split coaching by level. Some specialist weeks, like Surf With Amigas' advanced clinics, ask for more experience.

### Which retreats are best for solo travelers?
Soul & Surf, Talalla, Surf Maroc and the women's retreats are all set up for people coming alone, with shared meals and group sessions.

### What's surf therapy?
It's a structured program that combines surfing with therapeutic work. Resurface and Soul Surfers Retreat are both led by trained therapists and are meant for people dealing with things like burnout, trauma or loss.

### Is the yoga suitable for beginners?
Generally, yes. The yoga on these retreats is there to support the surfing, so it tends to be all-levels, and Surf With Amigas keeps it to gentle yin or restorative classes.
