## What it's like

Bodhi Tree sits in the jungle at Nosara, a small town on the Nicoya Peninsula known for 2 things: yoga and surf. Since our first write-up in 2015 it's become a full-scale resort, with more than 57 rooms spread through landscaped jungle grounds, fountains, a saltwater infinity pool and several yoga shalas with ocean views.

The resort says it was designed around the existing forest rather than cleared for it. It runs its own water treatment plant, irrigates the gardens with recycled water, heats water with solar panels and calls itself plastic free. It's also a sponsor of Costas Verdes, a nonprofit that replants degraded beaches.

Rooms range from jungle rooms and Tree Tops rooms with shared balconies to bungalows with open-air showers, Bodhi Villas and the Bodhi House with its own pool. All have air-conditioning and Wi-Fi. ## The programs

**Daily classes:** The schedule is packed. On a typical day we checked there was Bodhi Vinyasa, Flow and Restore, Yin, yoga nidra with sound, a sound bath and reformer Pilates, spread across the shalas. Classes are paid with tokens from the yoga desk, and mats and props are provided. The Akasha shala holds 45 to 50 people, and the enclosed, air-conditioned Shakti shala takes up to 75.

**Retreats:** The resort runs its own week-long Bodhi Tree Signature Retreat, mixing yoga, fitness and time on the water, with one scheduled for December 2026. There are also shorter immersions, retreats led by visiting teachers, and space to host your own group.

**Teacher training:** Bodhi Tree runs a 200-hour Yoga Alliance certified training in partnership with iLa Yoga. Upcoming dates listed are 13 March to 3 April 2027 and 30 October to 20 November 2027.

**Wellness and fitness:** There's a spa using locally sourced organic oils, a gym, spin classes, a lap pool and Pilates Nosara on site. The restaurant serves fusion food with buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner, and there's a juice bar.

**Surf:** Surf at Bodhi Tree offers lessons with certified instructors for beginners and experienced surfers, taking advantage of Nosara's consistent waves.

## Who it suits (and who it doesn't)

It's ideal if you want choice: several classes a day, a spa, fitness options and a big community of fellow yogis. Couples and friends traveling with different interests will find plenty to do, and the residences work for families.

If you're after a tiny, quiet retreat with a single teacher and a fixed group, this probably isn't it. It's a busy resort, and it hosts a lot of groups.
