## What it's like

Lefay sits on the hillside above Gargnano, a quiet town on the western shore of Lake Garda, in the stretch locals call the Riviera dei Limoni for its old lemon houses. The resort is built into a large park of old trees and Mediterranean shrubs, and almost everything faces the lake. Accommodation is all suites, from garden-level junior suites opening onto the lawns to family suites with two bedrooms and a top suite with its own infinity pool and private spa area.

The spa is the main event. Lefay SPA covers 4,300 square metres and includes an outdoor infinity pool that seems to run into the lake (open April to October), an indoor-outdoor pool, a saltwater thalassotherapy pool, whirlpools, seven types of sauna and six relaxation areas. There's an adults-only spa section, and saunas and the gym are for over-16s only. Outside, a running circuit, an outdoor fitness trail with eleven stations and an energy garden with five stations wind through the park.

The resort keeps things calm by welcoming only a limited number of young children, in dedicated rooms, and there's a kids' club in the afternoons. You can wander to breakfast and lunch in your bathrobe.

## The programs

The resort's approach is called the Lefay SPA Method. A scientific committee of doctors and specialists in Classical Chinese Medicine and Western disciplines designed it, and it underpins a menu of health programs:

- **Sleep (Il Sentiero di Hypnos).** Five or ten nights for people struggling with insomnia or simply needing to slow down. It starts with a medical exam to assess your energy levels, then adds personalised herbal remedies, energy massages, foot reflexology, tuina massage, treatments working on acupuncture points, Qi Gong sessions and a walk in the therapeutic garden. All meals come from a dedicated spa menu.
- **Other programs.** Antistress, detox, weight, longevity, fitness, immune system and gut health, a beauty program, a "letting go" program and a shorter introductory "discovery" option.

There are also wellness and beauty packages that pair energy treatments with non-invasive beauty technology, plus themed wellness weeks when visiting experts in holistic disciplines run sessions.

## Food

The kitchen follows the Mediterranean diet, built around seasonal produce, lake citrus, local herbs and extra virgin olive oil from Lefay's own farms on Lake Garda and in Tuscany. La Limonaia is the relaxed main restaurant, styled after the lake's traditional lemon houses. Gramen is the fine-dining restaurant with a lakeview terrace, led by a Michelin-starred executive chef, and it's for guests 12 and over.

## Who it suits (and who it doesn't)

Lefay is a great match for couples and solo travelers who want polished luxury and a properly designed health program, especially around sleep and stress. It also suits anyone who simply wants to spend days between saunas and the infinity pool.

It's not a budget-friendly or rustic retreat, and families with young children will find parts of the spa off-limits.

## Getting there

Brescia airport is about 54 km away, Verona about 88 km and Bergamo about 98 km. Milan Linate is around 150 km and Malpensa around 183 km. The nearest train station is Desenzano del Garda, about 37 km away. By car, most routes follow the lakeside road through Salò toward Gargnano. The resort has a free valet garage and runs a shuttle into Gargnano during the day.
