Lefay Resort & SPA Dolomiti is a luxury spa resort in Pinzolo, in Italy's Trentino region, close to the Madonna di Campiglio ski area. It's best for travelers who want serious spa time with a Chinese medicine angle, combined with skiing, snowshoeing or mountain hiking.

What it's like

Lefay Resort & SPA Dolomiti sits on the edge of Pinzolo, a village in western Trentino on the road up to Madonna di Campiglio. The Dolomites around it are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the resort leans into that setting with big windows, oak, local stone and natural fabrics throughout the suites.

The centerpiece is Lefay SPA World, 5,000 square meters given over to wellness. There's an indoor sports pool lined in light granite, an indoor-outdoor pool, a large whirlpool, a salt-water lake and a salt grotto. The sauna area follows the Lefay SPA Method, which draws on Classical Chinese Medicine: four themed stations, named the Green Dragon, Red Phoenix, White Tiger and Black Tortoise, each with different temperatures, humidity and aromas. A 24-hour gym and studios for breathing and meditation classes round it out.

National Geographic included it in a 2025 roundup of wellness retreats in the Dolomites.

The programmes

  • Active & Balance. Created by the Lefay SPA Method's scientific committee, this programme pairs the five movements of Classical Chinese Medicine with time in alpine nature, mixing indoor spa sessions with outdoor activity.
  • Wellness and beauty packages. Add-ons to your stay include Dolomiti Purifying, Dolomiti Rejuvenate, Osteopathy, Ayurveda, Mind & Body, Intensive Fitness, Wellness For Him and The Scents of the Forest, which uses treatments drawn from alpine plants, waters and muds.
  • Wellness Weeks. Set dates when the spa hosts visiting experts in different holistic practices.

Signature treatments combine massage with work on the body's energy meridians. There's also physiotherapy, osteopathy, non-invasive aesthetic treatments, couples' rituals in a private spa and a hair and beauty salon.

The mountains

In winter, you're close to the Madonna di Campiglio ski area, the biggest in Trentino, with about 150 km of slopes. The resort runs a free shuttle to the Pinzolo lifts and has a ski room and rental shop. In summer, the same peaks become hiking country, with trekking boots for rent and backpacks and poles lent free. Guests can borrow pedal-assist e-bikes, and there are two nine-hole golf courses a few minutes away.

Who it suits (and who it doesn't)

It's a good fit for couples and friends who want a polished spa resort with real mountain access, and for anyone curious about Chinese medicine without committing to a strict regime. Families can come, but the resort limits the number of children to keep things quiet, offers a kids club for ages 3 to 11 and keeps the treatment, sauna and fitness areas for guests 16 and over.

If you want a small, rustic retreat with a fixed group schedule, this probably isn't it. It runs like a large luxury hotel.

Getting there

The resort is at Via Alpe di Grual 16 in Pinzolo. The closest airports are Bolzano (114 km), Verona (140 km) and Bergamo (162 km), with Milan Linate and Malpensa farther out. Trento station is about 60 km away. From the A22 motorway, follow signs toward Tione and Pinzolo, then turn right just past the Pinzolo lift car park. Reception can arrange taxis, private transfers or car hire.
