Miraval Arizona is a destination spa resort on around 400 acres of Sonoran Desert outside Tucson, for guests 18 and over. It's best for adults who want a full daily menu of spa, movement, mindfulness and outdoor experiences, with meals included and very little to plan.

What it's like

Miraval Arizona spreads across roughly 400 acres of Sonoran Desert where the flats meet the mountains north of Tucson. Saguaros, big skies and a lot of quiet set the mood. It's been one of America's best-known destination spas for years, and National Geographic featured it in 2026 in a story on sexual wellness travel.

The way it works is simple. Your stay includes meals, snacks, coffee, smoothies and non-alcoholic drinks, and you also get a nightly resort credit to put toward spa services, paid activities or private sessions. Gratuities aren't expected. You arrive, pick from a long daily schedule and fill your days as lightly or as fully as you like. A sample day might start with a sunrise hike, move on to a sleep talk and a spa treatment, and end with meditation and a cooking session.

The resort is for adults only, with a minimum age of 18.

The programs

The daily schedule is the backbone of a Miraval stay. Activities fall into a few broad groups:

  • Wellbeing and mindfulness. Breathwork, meditation, mindfulness classes and sleep-focused sessions, including talks from a resident sleep and dream specialist.
  • Outdoor adventure. The guided two-hour Outback Hike, archery, hikes up Mount Lemmon and a challenge course called the Sky Island Traverse.
  • Equine. The Miraval Equine Experience is one of the resort's signature sessions, using time with horses to explore how you show up and connect.
  • Garden, bees and food. Visits to the garden and apiary, plus culinary and nutrition classes.
  • Yoga and fitness. A range of classes, including aerial yoga.
  • Spirit and soul. Drumming, crystal sessions, a labyrinth walk and desert stargazing.

The Life in Balance Spa is included in the package for full access, with treatments available on top. If you want more focus, Miraval offers 11 themed Journeys with Intention, covering areas like mental wellbeing, relaxation, couples, grief and loss, fitness, leadership and culinary skills. Planners can help match your stay to your goals.

Food

Breakfast is served at Cactus Flower Restaurant, and Palm Court has quick lunches, smoothies and snacks. For something special, you can book an intimate chef's dinner in the kitchen at extra cost.

Who it suits (and who it doesn't)

Miraval is a good fit for solo travelers, couples, friends marking a milestone and anyone working through a life change who wants support without a rigid program. You decide how busy to be, and the all-in setup takes the stress out of planning.

It's not for families with children, and it's not a strict fitness boot camp or a medical clinic. If you want a remote silent retreat, it may feel too busy and varied.

Getting there

Fly into Tucson International Airport. A shared shuttle from the airport is included with your stay, and the resort can also give driving directions if you're coming by car from Phoenix or elsewhere in Arizona.
