This is a ten-night, small-group yoga retreat in Mongolia run by UK operator Reclaim Yourself, staying in private ger camps in the East Gobi and the Khan Khentii wilderness. It suits fit, adventurous travelers who want twice-daily yoga combined with hiking, saunas and real remoteness.

What it's like

This isn't a retreat center but a traveling retreat. Reclaim Yourself, a UK company that has run yoga holidays since 2005, takes a small group to Mongolia and sets up in private ger camps run with nomadic families. National Geographic picked the trip for its 2026 Best of the World wellness list.

The trip moves between two very different landscapes. First comes the East Gobi, reached by a private light-aircraft flight of about an hour from Ulaanbaatar that lands on the steppe near the Ikh Nart uplands. After three nights there, you travel by jeep to the forests and river valleys of Khan Khentii for five nights. The trip begins and ends with a hotel night in Ulaanbaatar.

Expect real remoteness. There's no phone signal, and satellite Wi-Fi runs for around two hours a day, less reliably in the Gobi. Gers have proper beds, warm blankets and wood burners. In the Gobi, eco-toilets are a short walk away, while the Khan Khentii camp has ensuite toilets. Both camps have hot showers in separate gers.

The program

Yoga happens twice most days. Mornings start with a stronger practice and meditation, and evenings bring a slower, grounding class. After dinner there's optional meditation, breathwork or yoga nidra. The 2027 trip is taught by Felicity Wood, with a Hatha-style practice, and led by founder Jools Sampson.

Between classes, you're outdoors. In the Gobi there's a guided hike with a local herder, a trip to sand dunes and ancient burial sites, and a campfire dinner at a rocky viewpoint for stargazing. In Khan Khentii, each day brings a guided hike, a wood-fired sauna followed by a river dip, and optional horse riding for experienced riders. Massage is available as an extra.

Food

Meals at camp are vegetarian, cooked by chef Kelly Mason and a Mongolian team: breakfast, a light lunch and dinner, with herbal teas and water. The retreat is alcohol-free. The company says it can only cater for limited dietary needs, so check before booking.

Who it suits (and who it doesn't)

It's ideal for travelers with a good level of fitness who want something wilder than a resort retreat, and who don't mind long jeep days on rough roads, shared camp life and very limited connectivity.

It's not for anyone who wants hotel comforts, strict dietary catering or a relaxed beach pace. Plans can shift with weather and logistics, and the travel days are long.

Getting there

Fly into Ulaanbaatar. The company suggests routes via Istanbul with Turkish Airlines, via Beijing with Air China, or with MIAT from Frankfurt. International flights aren't included, but the private Gobi flight and jeep transfers are.
