B K Sundararaja Iyengar, considered one of the foremost yoga teachers in the world, is the founder of Iyengar Yoga. Some of the most important features of Iyengar Yoga are the practice of asana and pranayama with the innovative approach emphasising precision and alignment, planned sequencing, timing and the use of props. Iyengar Yoga is a complete approach to physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual transformation, bringing physical health and vitality, mental clarity, wisdom, and emotional serenity.

Besides being an art and a philosophy, Iyengar Yoga is also a science – well proven for its therapeutic value in relieving a wide array of medical conditions. Mr. Iyengar has written several books including “Light on Pranayama” and “Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.” and received many awards and recognitions for his devoted work on the subject of yoga.

Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI)

 

Located in Pune, Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) is the heart and soul of Iyengar Yoga. Recognized as one of the 100 most influential people in 2004, B. K. S. Iyengar created this centre for yogins on January 19, 1975. Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) is dedicated to Smt. Ramamani Iyengar, the wife of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar. The Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute is considered to be the temple of health and well-being for many.

Light on Yoga Research Trust (LOYRT)

 

The aim of Light on Yoga Research Trust (LOYRT) is to share the essence of Yogacharya BKS Iyengar’s teachings. This trust was formed in 1978 by the students of Yogacharya BKS Iyengar on the occasion of his 60th birthday. This is a public charitable trust. The prime objective of this trust is to spread the teachings of Iyengar Yoga. This trust does research works also.

The Iyengar Yogasharya

 

The Iyengar Yogasharya was established in October 2002. Guruji inaugurated Yogashara and thanked some of his old pupils who created opportunities and helped him. He wanted to see this centre may become “the holiest centre in the world.” This is one of the very few yoga centers which offer special classes for individuals with medical problems andmentally retarded adults.

Youth’s offerings to Guruji (YOG)

 

Youth’s offerings to Guruji (YOG) was formed in 1996 with the objective of raising funds for the propagation of Iyengar Yoga. YOG includes everyone in the Iyengar yoga fraternity who contribute in some way towards this vision, either by creating, developing, manufacturing, distributing, or buying products made by YOG.

Bellur Krishnamachar & Seshamma Smaraka Niddhi Trust (BKSSNT), a charitable Trust formed by Guruji, was formed with a vision to serve the village Bellur with all the necessities.  The Bellur Krishnamachar & Seshamma Smaraka Niddhi Trust (BKSSNT) aims at establishing Bellur as a model Indian village through improving educational, medical, social and cultural facilities.
